With the channel tunnel booked for a slot anytime after 1030am, we scoffed a fairly decent breakfast at the hotel, before donning our wet weather gear, for the last time. Leaving in some heavy weather, the 100 or so miles to Calais, kept us on our toes ...
Dave leads the way into the carriage, while for Neil, this was the first ever experience of using the Chunnel. I have to say he does look a little nervous !
Some 30 mins later, with clocks turned back, we actually arrived before we left, if that makes sense. The rain had not followed us, so heading for the M25, we were giving it some beans. A quick stop at Clacket Lane Services, to pay £32 for 4 coffees, 2 sandwiches, and a Pork Pie, reminded us we were truly home.
So a few rural roads before reaching the last roundabout ...
... and onto a rapturous welcome at the Rugby Club.
Thanks to everyone who welcomed us back, and that was it .... our adventure was over:
- No accidents (bar a couple of zero speed fall-offs)
- No breakdowns (bar 30 secs spent wiggling a fuel pump relay)
- No punctures (we all used tyre sealant, except Dave, Neil, and Thorpy)
- No falling outs (well, no major ones)
- 7,500 miles covered (give, or take)
- Umpteen Lagers consumed (probably more)
