Strange hotel .... full of Hollywood paraphernalia & pictures....
Anyway, managed to depart about 9.20 so getting more practiced at this speed packing. Bit of a mixture of roads today, with everything from broken tar to the autovias.
Scenery was intially a mountain backdrop, which slowly changed to the flat olive groves and vinyards of Southern France. Coffee and biscuits on the way ....
The French roads did start to get busier as we headed to Nice, but now and then the odd mountain pass gave us some relief. Lunch was the usual Snickers bar at a petrol station again, but we did have a laugh at Neil helping some young French lady put fuel in her scooter. I was then summonsed to help her fill the oil tank with two-stroke, while she bent over watching to see when it was full. The boyz watched in awe... Simple pleasures, eh !The Nice traffic was awful, but the climb out made it worthwhile.
Entering Italy was marked with a load of men carrying guns, but we did not have to stop.
A little further down the road we hit more heavy traffic. Neil had a moment as he left the fuel station driving on the wrong side of the road and nearly mowing down a lady on a crossing. Then a few minutes later we saw Thorpy take a completly different roundabout exit to the rest of us. In the melee, we got separated, and despite having the route on GPS's, slight route differences in the Cities made us pass Dave sending me and Thorpy onto our last long mountain road of the day.
Dave and Neil eventually caught up with us, and we arrived at the Guest house for the nigh,. We had some trouble finding it, as it turned out to be down a steep stoney path. Three of chanced the ride down as we were too lazy to carry our luggage down ... however, the discussing tonight around the meal table was concern over rain in the night, or morning dew making our ride out very difficult.
10 hours in the saddle but all chirpy enough to enjoy an Italian meal tonight, in the middle of the mountains.
