It was memories of walking to the restaurant and crossing paths with this male cross-dressing"thing" wearing all pink, that prevented most of us from sleeping last night. Oh, if only I had been brave enough to take a photo.
Strange hotel, just looked good on the outside but let down by poor staff and broken facilities. In fact, after I had been lied to during check-in, about the hotel "not having working a/c", 8 pints had put me in a belligerent, if not, confrontational, mood. I gathered my belongings, and started to kip in reception at midnight. They soon found me a new room !
Breakfast was overpriced at 16 Euro's too. Still, we were on the road by 9am, and fairly quickly into some nice countryside...
Similar plan to yesterday ... 400km to do .... motorway-forest road-motorway-hotel.
Very quickly, we were in the woods again ...
Stopped for coffee where we tied the bikes up while we drank ....
Lunch was yet again, a benzene related affair ...
And then after lunch, not sure what happened but after Dave nursing the flock that morning, suddenly we had become separated. However, aware that Neil and Thorpy had the route in their GPS, me & Dave just shot down the motorway, only stopping for a pastry mid-afternoon ...
Back on the motorway, and we were in Brussels by 4pm ...
The hotel for tonight, was located in the outskirts of the city, as we favoured a quick getaway in the morning, rather than fighting our way through Brussels city traffic. The hotel was called the The New Fox, and as is my way, despite having a remote car park, its just easier to pull up right outside in a prime (& safe) spot, and wait to see if we are moved. Dave uses a phrase to which I fully subscribe: "it's better to ask for forgiveness, than permission".
As I publish this, the plans for the evening will be the usual local restaurant. Our plan for the morning is to make haste to the Chunnel, for a late morning crossing. All being well, we will arrive Ledbury Rugby Club, to a homecoming welcome at 6pm , and some well deserved beers.
Everybody is invited, should the invitation not have reached you by other means.
