Another rainy day forecast, so wet weather gear was adorned by all. Leaving the city, Dave shot down the motorway like a bat out of hell, leaving poor old Thorpy whose faculties, were not yet up to full speed, getting buffeted by crosswinds and distancing him from the group by several km.
The road to the border was incredible, running alongside a lake through tunnels and bridges. On the assumption Thorpy could not get lost, we stormed on ahead, & waited at the border. Inevitably we were in a queue, and soon were ushered through the Police passport check.
Now in Customs, we heard the sound of a Triumph rapidly approaching, only to see a frustrated wet old boy, come flying past the Police barrier to join us, at Customs.
Unbeknown to him, we had already gone past the Police Passport check, and been stamped out the Country. The armed Border Guards were not impressed this this attempt to exit the Country illegally, and came tumbling out of their little box, falling over each other in an attempt to be first to get the cuffs on Thorpy.
He removed his helmet to reveal a distraught wet "senior expression", and compassion came over the Guards, with perhaps a sprinkling of forgiveness, well maybe !
Now into Serbia, we found a coffee shop, in the foothills, which gave us a change to stop and dry out, a little....
We left and continued to climb into the mountains, where the rain got wetter ...
After what seemed like an eternity, Harris pulled over for lunch, which was served by Igor. The menu was in English, but we could not understand what actually was available, and what wasn't. The boyz managed to order veal soup, and I lucked out with the stuffed chicken. What it was actually stuffed with still remains a mystery.
After lunch, we did have a teeny weeny bit of off road, which we had, er, forgot, to mention to Thorpy. Dave assured us it was gravelled, and short, so we talked the poor chap into it.
Fair play, he survived the ordeal, and on we went. The weather by now, had abated and we ended the day riding this awesome road down into Sarajevo. It runs alongside a gorge, in and out of tunnels and bridges, with spectacular glimpses every now and then. Managed to grab some pics ....
Finally got into Sarajevo, around 7pm, after nearly 11 hours in the saddle. A long day, but for me, some of the most spectacular scenery & roads on the trip.
The hotel was nice, and had the luxury of a locked garage for the bikes.
Dave & Thorpy, who made a miraculous recovery, soon found a bar in the old city, and myself & Neil joined 30 mins later...
Food options were limited, well, if we wanted beer with our meal ! So we settled for beefsteak, chips, and a Fanta !
The day was beginning to catch up with us, and we decided on one final beer before bed,. However it troubles me to inform you all, that Dave declined that last pint ! Unbelievable.
Some History in that Area! Enjoy!
