The Plan - or lack of it.

It was Dave Harris who sprang the idea in 2021 ... his brother-in-law, Edward, was moving to Cyprus, so why should he have all the fun.  Dave wanted to ride to Cyprus and back, and was looking for companions.  The word went out and we had an inaugural meeting at the Butchers Arms where 1-2 "maybe's" showed up.  Not be daunted, we thought it better to draw up a list of those we thought would like to take 6 weeks off from work & family, hastily scribbling names down in their absence.

Reality set in over the autumn months and come early January, we were down to 3 initially, but a late entrant in the name of Rob Thorpe, joined us with a what the heck attitude.  70 years old, with "some" bike experience ... well, why not ?

So there it was, four of us :

  • Dave Harris
    Just waiting on one more
  • Neil Blandford
  • Russ McDermid
  • Rob Thorpe "Thorpy"

The next few weeks saw the purchase of new(ish) machines..... Dave bought a new KTM 890, Neil opted for a new Honda CB500X, Thorpy bought a 2 year old Triumph 800XC, while I opted to use old faithful, the 12 year old Honda Transalp that took me to Thailand some 7 years earlier.

Awesome bikes. Good choices. Be interested to hear how the 890 goes as here in Thailand we can only get the 790 still.
