I have never heard of a "KTM" !!

Left the hotel 9ish, to head for the border crossing with Turkey.  With Thorpy recovered, we were back to 4 again.  Arrived 20 mins later at the Greek exit point which went without a hitch.

Crossing the no-mans land bridge....

.. to enter Turkey ....

Harris starting causing problems as when the pretty little Customs officer started to enter bike details, they had not heard of a KTM.  Where are they made, she asked !

The Hondas breezed through.

We then worked our way through a load of country lanes heading for Gallipoli....

First one was the Anzac monument with a series of 10 plaques explaining the conflict ....

Then onto a short road loop which wound its way around the hill where a lot of the battles took place.  While the graves & monuments are new, the original trenches remain.

A gravel road took us to our lunch stop on the banks of the Bosphorous, before catcbng the 15 min ferry across the river, to the Asian side of Turkey.

We rode onto our evening destination, initially along a fast dual carraageway, which then turned into a steep windy descent.  With Russ & Dave at the front, we approached a hugh queue of traffic moving at a snails pace.  It didnt take long for Daves patience to run out, and he started to jostle his way to the front, closly followed by me.

Neil and Thorpy took a far more sensible approach, and stayed in the queue ... arriving at the hotel some 20 mins after us, but at least safely.

The hotel was a converted house just off the beach, and was really nice.  Harris shot to a bar, and missed out on the free beers our host offered us ...

But at least he had a headstart.  Burhani turned out to be a really nice place, and I think we swelled some of the bars profits (they needed it) ... it was a late night indeed.

Some pics of the area ....

  1. Turkey looks fantastic. Anzac Cove is one place I would love to visit. Being from New Zealand it is an important spot in our Countries History and has also tied Us to Australia ever since! Long may the ANZAC Spirit live on!
